Description

This is one of my most important works to date. I began The Sinner and His Mourners at the age of 18 and completed it at 21. This remarkably long time span is due to it coinciding with a transitional period in my life which is reflected in the work itself. This piece encompasses four relationships, their endings and beginning respectively. The two male figures represent one individual and in a broader sense the duality of man. The female to the left represents the role of the mother and the female to the right, individuality and self reliance pertaining to human relationships. The dove in her hand however is a reference the the Holy Spirit, she clings to it and adores it’s beauty. The grey male under her foot is a demon she is stepping over, a symbol I received in a dream. I could elaborate on the story but I prefer to keep personal details just for myself, and I think the work has a greater voice when explained in broad terms
