John Currin’s work has long been a favorite of mine. His painterly approach to brush work, the balance between exaggeration and realism, and the subject of the human form are part of what makes his work so attractive.
I must warn the viewer though that pornography is a frequent subject of his, something I find unfortunate. The more innocent nudes and portraits however are very enjoyable and worth studying.
If you’d like to learn more about Currin I recommend: “John Currin: In Conversations with Great Minds” – The DePaul Humanities Center H. Peter Steeves gives an eloquent introduction.
