Liz Parker is a self taught painter and sculptor working in Battle Creek, Michigan. Liz specializes in traditional media, primarily oil paints and hand carved wood. Her aesthetic focuses on the figurative and classicist genres with influences of gestural abstraction and symbolist movements.
Artist’s Statement
“I seek to develop an aesthetic using contemporary language grounded in the classical traditions. The styling of figures, paint application and narrative are important to me. I’m always experimenting with new ways to create, from conception and the gathering of information to the application of media. In regard to substance, although my works are largely esoteric I envision them with a greater purpose. I want to share the truths I’ve found and hopefully make an impact on individual lives. The meanings or stories of my art come from real places, things I’ve experienced, though things are not usually taken literally. This can be a rather ambiguous mode of communication as the real and the symbolic intermingle, and because my primary area of interest is a spiritual one with the unique challenge of representing the unseen with in limited visual devices.” -Liz Parker
